What's New at Scoil Iósaif Naofa

February 2012

Comenius

School Iósaif Naofa is delighted to be taking part in a new Comenius Schools partnership from August 2011 to June 2013. This time the school is twinned with schools in Austria, France, Estonia, Denmark and Spain. Some of the classes in the school have been writing to children in Denmark and France. Four teachers will travel to Denmark in March to visit the Danish school and learn about the education system there.

Band

Practices for the band have started up again, in preparation for the parade on St. Patrick’s Day. Boys have started learning the drum beats and they are going off with a bang. 11 boys have put in a great commitment to learning the piano accordion and are doing brilliantly after just two lessons.  Recorders will hopefully start next Wednesday after school and the band will definitely be in full swing then. Keep up the hard work boys; you are doing a great job so far.

We hope to start uploading photos of our progress on the website from next week so be sure to log on and have a look.

Peace Proms

Rang a 6 performed at the Peace Proms in the National University of Ireland, Galway, on Saturday, February 4th.  They had the opportunity to perform the songs they learned with 500 other pupils from Co. Galway and the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland.  They were privileged to be conducted by one of Irelands leading conductors, Mr. Gearóid Grant.  The concert was really enjoyable and the boys gave an enthusiastic and memorable performance.

Catholic Schools Week

Catholic schools week took place in the school last week. All of the children in the school made St. Brigid’s crosses.

We celebrated Grandparents’ Day in the school on the 1st of February. We were delighted to welcome the grandparents who entertained and educated us with their stories of life long ago and their experiences growing up.

The sixth class took part in the BT Primary Science Fair which was held at the RDS in Dublin. The title of the children's project was "Designing Bridges". The children also made beam and arch bridges. They then carried out experiments on the bridges.
